Anthony Seibold has put pen to paper on a deal to return to coaching in the NRL, signing on as an assistant with the PNG Chiefs.
Seibold, who was sacked as head coach of the Manly Sea Eagles in March, was spotted travelling to Port Moresby last week to take a tour of the facilities that will now be his workplace, operating under Willie Peters.

Seibold’s experience as a head coach in the NRL will be a significant benefit for the Chiefs, who have a host of big names already signed on to play for the team. The likes of Jarome Luai, Alex Johnston and Zac Lomax headline that roster.
Better yet, Seibold has previous experience working alongside Peters and PNG’s other assistant coach Luke Burt, having all done a stint together at South Sydney.
Seibold is looking forward to reuniting with some familiar faces in PNG.
“I’m looking forward to working with Willie Peters and supporting the vision that this club has,” he said via a club statement on Friday.
“The Chiefs are building something special with strong values and great people, and I’m excited to play my part in helping them succeed.
“The chance to make a positive impact on players, staff and the wider community was a big reason I wanted to join the Chiefs. Success on the field is important, but building something that inspires people across Papua New Guinea is just as meaningful.”
Chiefs general manager of football Michael Chammas recognised how beneficial the experience of Seibold will be for the expansion team come time for their entry into the competition in 2028.
“We’re really excited about Anthony joining our coaching staff and believe that he will add a great deal to the playing group and football department as a whole,” he said.
“His experience in numerous roles across rugby league is a great benefit to us, and his time as a head coach in particular will help him be a trusted advisor to Willie.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming him and his family to our Chiefs family in November 2027.”
