Fox Sport’s MotorRacing 360 program this week aired “a big exclusive” that Percat had been approached to take Declan Fraser’s seat, effective immediately.
The program declared Percat knocked back “a loose offer” in order to fulfil his contract with Red Bull Ampol Racing for the Enduro Cup.
Speculation has swirled over Fraser’s future at PremiAir amid a tough return to the championship for the 25-year-old.
PremiAir team principal Dane told Speedcafe in Perth that he was “absolutely amazed” to hear a claim that Percat had been offered the seat.
“Not a shred of truth. Not even a gnat of truth to it,” said Dane, who owns the building in which Percat’s JND Racing driver development team is based.
“I’ve had one contact with Nick in the last few months and that was to tell him the alarm had gone off on his building.
“It just shows you people will invent things just for the sake of it. I think the bloke in America calls it fake news.”
Dane had lamented after the Townsville 500 that the Fraser-driven #777 entry is “in the wrong postcode” following a trio of 21st place finishes.
The team undertook a rookie test with Fraser at Queensland Raceway on the Wednesday after Townsville, where co-driver Nash Morris also turned laps.
“We had a good test,” said Dane.
“Declan’s got a deal to the end of the year and you never say never, but certainly we’re not about to make a change at the moment, I can promise you.”
Percat signed with Red Bull Ampol Racing to partner Broc Feeney in this year’s enduros following the end of his full-time Supercars career.
