Kyle Sandilands will not be reappearing on Australian Idol, saying he’ll be stepping down “for the good of the brand to continue”.
The move is the latest in Sandilands’ tumultuous 2026 which has included his falling out with former co-star Jackie O and split from KIIS FM, and following legal action and settlement.
He is in the process of launching a new show, Kyle Sandilands Live, via app next month.
The shock jock’s decision to quit the Channel Seven staple was revealed by the Nine newspapers, which reported it was due to fears over a campaign from activist group Mad F**king Witches.
“Those activists have attacked the potential clients for Australian Idol or the clients from last year, and has caused a problem in Channel Seven’s sales team,” he told the papers.
“So I’ve told Channel Seven this morning … that I’m standing down from Idol for the good of the brand to continue.”
Sandilands, 55, has had two stints hosting Australian Idol. The first lasted from 2005-2009 and he returned in 2022 alongside Meghan Trainor and Amy Shark.
The announcement after the show aired it’s 11th season finale in April.
After settling his unfair dismissal case out of court with ARN in June, Sandilands is set to launch his own paid platform half way through August.
Subscribers will pay $99 to access the Kyle Sandilands Live show.
The radio host’s $100m contract was terminated in March after he said Jackie O was “off with the fairies” and “unfocused”.
Sandilands ended up settling the case for more than $12m and has since told his side of the tale in a tell-all documentary series.
The Aussie celebrity has had his fair share of emotional upheaval over the last twelve months.
He recently revealed his shock brain aneurysm diagnosis in 2025 while speaking on The Debrief podcast.
Sandilands said doctors were unable to operate on the aneurysm as it is located in a difficult position behind his eye.
