This week at training camp, New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers contested the reported date of his second knee surgery.
On May 13, a report surfaced from The Athletic’s Dan Duggan that the one-time Pro Bowl wideout underwent a clean-up procedure. At the time, Duggan reported that the operation took place “multiple weeks ago” and that the goal was to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness.
“When I had the second surgery that everybody thought, I didn’t,” Nabers said. “So I don’t know where that’s coming from.”
A reporter then asked a clarifying question, inquiring if Nabers didn’t have a second surgery at all.
“I didn’t have it on that date,” he said. “So I don’t know when that came out, but I never had it on that date.”
After that, Nabers was asked if the procedure occurred earlier than that.
“I don’t know. I just never had it on that date,” he responded.
Nabers initially underwent ACL and meniscus surgery on Oct. 28. By that point, exactly one month had passed since he was carted off against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4 of the 2025 campaign. Leading up to the operation, the Giants waited for Nabers’ swelling to stop, and the LSU product did prehab, per ESPN.
ACL tears typically don’t require more than a nine-month recovery.
The Giants have remained hopeful that Nabers will be good to go for their 2026 season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13. He avoided the PUP list to begin training camp.
