The Greek Australian Conversations (GAC) collective will host its third public event of 2026 on Sunday, 9 August, inviting the community to discuss Australia’s evolving political landscape and its implications for social cohesion, multiculturalism and national identity.
The free public forum, titled “Social Cohesion or Social Division? How Should We Respond to the New Politics of Australia?”, will take place from 3pm to 5.30pm at Balam Balam Place, 15 Phoenix Street, Brunswick.
The discussion will examine a range of contemporary political issues, including the rise of the political right, growing support for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, and ongoing debates surrounding immigration, multiculturalism, national identity, class and social cohesion.
Organisers say the event aims to encourage open discussion around questions such as why right-wing politics is gaining support, how Australians should understand current debates about multiculturalism and national identity, and how communities should respond to these political developments.
To frame the conversation, three guest speakers will share their perspectives:
Danae Bosler, second-generation Greek Australian and Assistant Secretary of the Victorian Trades Hall Council.
Anthea Hancocks, Chief Executive Officer of the Scanlon Foundation Research Institute.
Kos Samaras, Greek Australian social researcher and pollster.
Following the presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an open discussion and ask questions.
Admission is free, with tea and coffee to be provided.
The event forms part of Greek Australian Conversations’ ongoing series of public forums exploring issues affecting both the Greek Australian community and Australian society more broadly.
