Marc Marquez added a further 37 points to his championship tally after another perfect weekend in MotoGP, continuing right where he left off before the summer break.

The Spaniard has returned to his dominant form of years past. After taking a pay cut to move from the Honda stable to Ducati in 2024, the resurgence of the classic Marquez has been incredible to see.

MotoGP rival Fabio Quartararo was in awe of Marquez in Austria as he watched Q2 from the sidelines. Pole position looked like Marquez’s to lose, which is exactly what happened following a late off before his final flying lap.

The resurgence of the eight-time Grand Prix world champion has taken everybody by surprise this season. Casey Stoner noted that he didn’t ‘foresee’ Marquez’s dominance taking the shape that it has during the current campaign.

Fermin Aldeguer was in shock after learning Marc Marquez’s points tally after the Austrian Grand Prix

Marquez was joined on the podium by Aldeguer for the second time this season, with the former celebrating the latter’s maiden premier class podium at the French Grand Prix in May.

In behind-the-scenes footage captured as part of MotoGP’s Unseen series, Aldeguer is seen looking at the updated riders’ standings in the media room before taking questions from journalists.

As he examines the sheet of paper, he looks up towards Marquez before exclaiming to him, “418 points, what the f—! Calm down a bit!”

The reaction was warranted, considering the Spaniard is on record-setting pace, even with there being nine rounds left to race in the 2025 MotoGP campaign.

Aldeguer currently sits in eighth place in the standings, with a much more humble tally of 121 points.

Marc Marquez is on the verge of retaking the MotoGP single-season points record from Jorge Martin

Following the introduction of points-paying Sprint races at every Grand Prix weekend in 2023, Jorge Martin shattered Marquez’s previous record for the highest number of points in a single season by scoring 508 of them in 2024.

With Marquez already sitting on a fine tally of 418, it looks like Martin’s tally will be blown out of the water by the time the chequered flag falls on the 2025 season in nine rounds’ time.

As a testament to the dominance of the Ant of Cervera in 2025, Jorge Lorenzo told Marquez that he will be close to breaking a MotoGP record soon, to which the Ducati rider coolly responded, “Which one?”

There are a multitude of premier class records that Marquez can add to his collection this season, including ones that he already holds and can extend even further.

Following his feat in Austria, Marquez is now five Grand Prix wins away from his own win record. There seems to be no doubt in the MotoGP paddock that he can get those in the final nine races.
