We are delighted to announce the appointment of Tom Culshaw as the Club’s new Assistant Head Coach.
Culshaw arrives at Blundell Park with an outstanding coaching pedigree, bringing experience from some of the biggest clubs in British football, including Liverpool, Rangers and Aston Villa, as well as a spell in the Saudi Pro League with Al Ettifaq.
A UEFA Pro Licence coach, Culshaw has spent more than a decade working at the elite level of the game, developing young players and supporting first-team environments.
After beginning his coaching career within Liverpool’s Academy, where he spent seven years working across a number of age groups, Culshaw formed a successful coaching partnership with Steven Gerrard. The pair worked together with Liverpool’s Under-18s before moving on to Rangers, where they helped guide the Glasgow club to the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership title, ending Celtic’s run of nine consecutive league championships.
Culshaw then joined Gerrard’s coaching staff at Aston Villa in the Premier League before following him to Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq in 2023.
Prior to moving into coaching, Culshaw progressed through Liverpool’s Academy as a player, captaining the club’s reserve side after representing England at Under-15 and Under-16 level.
Head Coach David Artell said:
“Tom’s someone whose experience speaks for itself. He’s worked in elite environments, has a fantastic reputation as a coach and has been part of successful teams at every level. He’s an outstanding addition to our staff and we’re delighted to welcome him to Grimsby Town.”
Speaking after joining the Mariners, Culshaw said:
“I’m really excited to be joining Grimsby Town. It’s a Club with a proud history, passionate supporters and a clear direction. Speaking with David, it was obvious how ambitious everyone is here and I’m looking forward to getting out on the training pitch, working with the players and helping the Club continue to move forward.”
On Culshaw’s appointment, Chief Executive Officer Polly Bancroft added:
“We’re delighted to welcome Tom to Grimsby Town. Throughout the recruitment process, it was clear that he shares our ambitions for the football club and brings an exceptional level of experience from working in high-performance environments both in this country and abroad.
“Tom has worked alongside some outstanding coaches and players throughout his career, and we believe his knowledge, expertise and commitment to developing players will be a real asset to David, the coaching staff and the squad.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact Tom will have as we continue building on the progress made over recent seasons, and we’d like to wish him every success during his time at Blundell Park.”
Everyone at Grimsby Town would like to welcome Tom and his family to the Football Club and wish him every success in black and white.
