CANBERRA

In a battle for fourth spot on the ladder with two rounds remaining, Goulburn City claimed a crucial 22-16 win over Woden Valley at Woden Park.

With plenty on the line, defence was a priority for both sides early in the piece, before Nick Cornish finally broke through in the 19th minute when he put Shammah Tiumalu over with a short ball.

Taylor Withington chose to run the ball on last tackle and it paid dividends as he broke the line and found Joshua Latham to push their lead to 10.

The Rams needed a response and it came on the stroke of halftime with Josh Fattore hitting Matthew Cox short to cut it back to four.

They continued that momentum in the second half and had their second early in the second half with Luke Hicks proving too strong.

Tomasi Bikaca ended their run when he busted through three defenders to score an explosive try, before Cornish was unstoppable from close range to extend Goulburn’s lead to eight.

Braedan Spencer gave the Rams life inside the final minutes when he stepped his way to the line, but it was too late as the Bulldogs defended out the final set.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos all-but secured the minor premiership after a narrow 14-12 defeat of second-placed Belconnen United in Bruce.

Neither side was able to break through until the half-hour mark with Jordan Holten-Williams hitting Luke Connolly short.

The Roos struck just before the break with Brayden Omoeboh going over out wide to keep them within range.

They had their first lead when Rhys Elton played at the line to put Josh Ayers into space to race away to the line.

A rampaging Gideon Afemui was turned inside and he helped tie the scores up with 25 minutes remaining.

The two looked destined to play out a draw, before Lucas Thomson was hit with a high shot 15m out, just to the side of the posts with under three minutes to play.

He recovered and went back to slot the penalty goal to seal the win.

In other games, Queanbeyan Blues ran riot with a 60-12 win over Gungahlin, led by hat-tricks from Jamie Kotz and Connor Williams.

Saxon Innes had four tries for West Belconnen as the Warriors edged out Tuggeranong 28-26 at Greenway Oval.

CRONULLA

The final four in Cronulla is now set following the conclusion of the regular season.

With De La Salle banking the two points following a forfeit by Engadine, it meant they had second spot locked in.

It also meant Joeys had to win in order to lock down top spot as they travelled to Gymea to take on the Gorillas.

The opening stages were a battle for the upper hand, before Zac Hicks took it upon himself to get Joeys rolling, keeping the ball alive from close range with a spread allowing Mitch Barbutuo to cross out wide, in what was the lone try of the first half.

Gymea hit the front early in the second half as Dallas Blackburn-Kingi powered through four defenders right in front of the clubhouse.

A brilliant cutout from Blake Barbuto found an unmarked Tops Sopoaga to edge Joeys ahead again, before some brilliant quick hands in the backline gave Mitch Barbuto an easy passage to the line for his second.

They had the game wrapped up eight minutes from full-time when Jake Steadman put a cross-field bomb for Jack MdDowell to pounce and score.

Joeys will take on De La for a spot in the grand final, while Gymea will have to take down Yarrawarrah who finished in third after a 28-4 defeat of Taren Point.

The Tigers were always in control as they ran in five tries to one, notching the 10th win of their inaugural A-grade season.

ILLAWARRA

Sutherland Loftus created history with its first victory in the Harrigan Cup after edging out Dapto 26-24 at Sutherland Oval.

The two went back and forth in a first half that saw the two tied at 10-all at the break, with a nice piece of individual brilliance from Kobie Wilson getting the Pirates on the board first as he regathered a bomb and touched down just before going out.

A stunning flick pass from Viliame Koroitamana to Will Stewart saw him streak down the sideline, with Wilson firing out of dummy half before finding Blake Wardrobe to put Sutherland ahead by 10.

Justin Jones’ second kept Dapto within range, before Henri Young quickly added another to get them back on level pegging.

Then the Canaries pulled out a magic play, with Braxton Wallace putting Jackson Rieck into space from their own 20m, before Rieck passed back inside to Wallace to get them ahead with five to play.

As the siren sounded, the Pirates had one last chance to score, and they took it from a scrum with Tyrell Lafituanai chipping ahead for Thomas Wiseman to touch down, levelling the scores with a kick from out wide.

It gave Lafituanai a chance to win the game with a kick 10m in from the sideline, with the centre calmly slotting it between the posts to land their maiden win of the season.

SOUTH SYDNEY

The Alexandria Rovers are into the grand final qualifier after a dramatic 26-14 comeback victory over South Eastern at Mascot Oval.

As steady rain came down throughout the afternoon, a Memphis Wallace try off a backline shift provided the lone first half points on the 15-minute mark.

The Seagulls continued to win the middle in the second half and were rewarded when Jesse Marschke took the line on and sliced through the defence to extend their lead.

Twin brother Ben gave them an imposing 14-point advantage with 20 minutes to play when he regathered a chip after it was spilt at the back.

That sparked the Rovers into action, with Alec Tuitavake starting their run in the 55th minute when he hit a short ball at pace from close range.

They were within two after Elijah McGrath leapt above the pack to bring down a Kareel Phillips bomb, and with seven to play they levelled the scores after a penalty in front of the posts.

Not content to settle for extra time, a Shane Nolan bomb was allowed to bounce, with Chaise Robinson shifting out to Nate Stewart, who grubbered ahead for Robinson to give them the lead.

They sealed the game moments later when Robinson grubbered through the line, before toeing the ball ahead for a stunning individual try.

The win means they play the Coogee Dolphins this weekend for a spot in the grand final, while South Eastern will look to keep its season alive against Coogee-Randwick.

The Wombats ended their losing run in style, defeating La Perouse 20-16 in the elimination final at Erskineville Oval.

The two went back and forth early with the boot of Jayden Rooke proving the difference as the Panthers held a 12-8 advantage.

But Luke Hennessy’s second try of the afternoon gave Coogee the lead, before Thomas Giles gave them a handy eight-point buffer.

Blake Judd got one back for La Perouse late, but the Wombats managed to hold on to keep their season alive.
