D’Angelo Russell went viral for his comments about wanting to see Stephen Curry in a different uniform that doesn’t feature the Golden State Warriors logo.

Russell briefly played alongside Curry throughout the 2019-20 campaign before Golden State traded the former to the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of the trade deadline. Despite their short time together, Russell has long acknowledged Curry’s legacy as one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Russell appeared on a new episode of his Backyard Podcast on Sunday, discussing destinations for potential free agents. Curry is one of the players he looked into, entertaining the idea of the veteran superstar going to the Celtics.

“I would love to see Stephen Curry go to Boston. Yeah, I would love to see that. I just think he needs that type of help around him now. Who’s taking the load off him in Golden State? The rookie? Healthy Jimmy (Butler)?” said Russell at the 7:30 mark, who was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in July.

“I think you have a veteran team that’s going to know how to win the last three minutes of a game. They’re going to know how to win. Just getting to the last three minutes is where they’re going to struggle.”

What Lies Ahead for Stephen Curry amid NBA Future

Stephen Curry has four titles to his name with the Warriors, cementing a legacy with the franchise. However, his desire to compete for one more championship might require him or Golden State to make a tough move in the near future.

Curry continues to flourish with star performances at age 38. He took part in 43 games last season, averaging 26.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.

The Warriors ended the 2025-26 campaign with a 37-45 record, sitting at 10th place in the Western Conference standings. Their season ended in the play-in tournament, beating the Los Angeles Clippers before losing to the Phoenix Suns.

Golden State will need all the help it can get ahead of next season. If they want to make a deep playoff run, they will need young players to step up in the rotation throughout the ups and downs of the campaign.
