Once again, we come to Iowa for reasons we can’t even fathom.

After a four-year hiatus, Major League Baseball emerges from the cornfield and onto the diamond in Dyersville. Thursday’s MLB at Field of Dreams game puts the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies on the site of the 1989 hit film. It’s nostalgia with novelty — Kevin Costner alongside Kody Clemens.

In addition to current stars like Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, the “Field of Dreams” special taps in Hall of Famers from prior generations. Here’s what to know about this latest MLB Netflix exclusive.

What to know about the Phillies and Twins

Despite its unique setup and neutral location, Thursday’s affair counts as a standard regular-season matchup. The Phillies-Twins series begins in Dyersville, then shifts to Minneapolis for Saturday and Sunday.

According to news station KCRG in Iowa, the updated venue seats up to 8,000 attendees. For comparison, Minnesota’s Target Field has a capacity of more than 38,000, while Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park comes in at almost 43,000. The Dyersville ballpark also uses a manual wooden scoreboard.

The league says that at least 25 Cooperstown dignitaries will be there. Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton are among the expected Hall of Fame guests for Philly, with Joe Mauer and Rod Carew repping the Twin Cities.

Both teams suit up in throwback uniforms to mark the occasion. The Phillies wear road grays from 1939-41 with red slanted script, and a dark blue hat with a bright red “P.” The Twins bring out their 1961 pinstriped home whites and a navy “TC” cap.

Philadelphia is 64-58. It fired Rob Thomson after a tough 9-19 opening, and has since swung into the playoff race under interim manager Don Mattingly. The Phillies are paced by veteran All-Stars Schwarber and Harper. The slugging Schwarber has 35 home runs so far, while Harper is in the 96 percentile for batting run value. Right-handed pitcher Aaron Nola takes the bump — he has three top-10 Cy Young finishes across his 12-year career, but has struggled to a 3-9 record and 5.47 ERA this season.

Minnesota enters at 60-62. Despite an unabashed sell-off at last year’s trade deadline, the club has remained competitive and just put together a 15-9 stretch in the month of July. Under Derek Shelton, the Twins are vying for the final AL wild-card spot, and they’re expected to get All-Star outfielder Byron Buxton (hip) back from the IL in the coming days. Right-hander Taj Bradley starts Thursday at 9-4 with a 3.76 ERA.

MLB at Field of Dreams was preceded by a Triple-A game on Tuesday and the High School All-American Game on Wednesday. The latter featured some famous alumni, as former Phillie Jim Thome and Twins stalwart Torii Hunter served as managers.

The game would be rescheduled for Friday if it’s rained out on Thursday.

Netflix’s ‘Field of Dreams’ broadcast details

Matt Vasgersian is the streamer’s play-by-play voice for baseball. Retired players contributing to the coverage include Barry Bonds and Hunter Pence. Lauren Shehadi reports from the field, and Elle Duncan leads Netflix’s live sports programming.

Costner is set to narrate an introduction. He appeared on the field at the first “Field of Dreams” edition in 2021. The titular movie is now streaming on Netflix. Phillies and Twins players did line reads as part of the promotion.

The attending Hall of Famers will be involved in a pregame ceremony. And expect to see some shots of Philadelphia infielder Bryson Stott, who is wearing cleats that honor late Phillies like Darren Daulton, Roy Halladay and Tug McGraw.

This is the third baseball event for Netflix this year. The streamer also had MLB Opening Night and July’s Home Run Derby.

The history of ‘Field of Dreams’ games

The inaugural run was on Aug. 12, 2021, between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. Chicago prevailed in a stirring 9-8 gem.

Down 7-4 to start the ninth inning, the Yanks rallied and took the lead off the strength of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton homers. But the Sox countered with heroics of their own — Tim Anderson clobbered a two-run walk-off into the cornstalks for the win.

A second “Field of Dreams” special went down on Aug. 11, 2022. It starred two longtime division rivals, the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs scored three times in the opening frame, en route to a 4-2 win. Drew Smyly shined in that one with nine strikeouts through five scoreless innings. The highlight might have come from the pregame program when Ken Griffey Jr. and Sr. emerged from the outfield together. “Hey dad, you wanna have a catch?” The answer is forever self-evident.
