Jake Dennis eyes second Formula E crown after ‘ball-busting’ Andretti recovery

Jake Dennis has revealed that winning a second Formula E drivers’ title this weekend would mean more than his first title in 2023, with him and Andretti having “busted their balls off”.

It has been an intriguing season for Dennis, who flew out of the blocks by winning the season-opener in São Paulo last December before a major mid-season drop-off.

However, he enters the final London E-Prix as the title leader by two points, following a run of four podiums, including a win, in the last four races.

Dennis secured his first world title in Season 9 back in 2023, the first year of the Gen3 era. Two difficult campaigns followed for the Briton and Andretti, who have turned things around in the final campaign of the current regulatory cycle.

Discussing his feelings ahead of the finale, Dennis told RacingNews365: “Yeah, I mean, obviously, means the world to me to be able to be in this position. But I think it does to all of us. 

“So I’m just happy and proud of the team and myself to be able to fight for the title, we’ve come from a couple of difficult years in Season 10 and 11 not really being in the title hunt to now kind of turn it back around in the fourth year of the car and being able to fight against the manufacturers is seriously impressive. 

“So I’m more proud of the team to be able to put me in this position again.”

Given the journey Andretti has been on and the turnaround it has achieved, a second world title this weekend would mean more to Dennis than his first.

Asked what it would mean to become a two-time world champion, he replied: “It would mean a lot, yeah. Bust your balls off to try and get in this position, and yeah, it’s a lot of time away from home, a lot of time at the factory, developing, working hard. 

“I think it would be probably the most rewarding because we’ve really had to turn this team around compared to where we were last year and then the year before, and to now be in a position to fight for it kind of shows the hard work which me and the team are putting in, and also Felipe to now go and fight for this thing.”
