AUSSIE racing icon Allan Moffat will be honoured at this year’s Apex Steel Muscle Car Masters at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The legendary, 1977 Bathurst 1000-winning Moffat Ford Dealers Falcon XC Coupe will be on display at the event, courtesy of the National Motor Racing Museum in Bathurst.
The Moffat and Jacky Ickx-driven Ford that famously led the sister #2 Colin Bond/Alan Hamilton car in the famous form-finish, is a permanent resident of the NMRM.
Last year it left the NMRM and headed to Melbourne to be part of Ford’s centenary celebrations.
The four-time Bathurst Great Race winner had a long connection to the Muscle Car Masters event as a frequent guest and held a long connection to event promoter, the Australian Racing Drivers Club.
A Director on the ARDC Board for over a decade (between 1998 and 2013), he was named an ARDC Life Member in 2011 and Turn 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park was renamed Moffat Corner in his honour in 2017.
The 1977 Falcon will sit on static display in the paddock at SMP during the event to pay tribute to Moffat, who passed away last November.
Last held under the Muscle Car Masters title in 2019, the event promises a return to its former glory with a stacked list of heritage and V8-flavoured racing categories.
That line-up includes Touring Car Masters, the National Sports Sedan Series, Heritage Touring Cars (Group C & A), Group N Historic Touring Cars, Five-Litre Touring Cars, Group S Historic Sports Cars, HQ Holdens and the 1960s & ‘70s-oriented Australian Trans Am category.
SMSP operator and Muscle Car Masters’ promoter, the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club, announced in February a multi-year naming rights sponsorship deal for the event with Apex Steel.
