24-year-old tennis player Kamilla Bartone has likely changed her sports representation from Latvia to Belarus. This is indicated by changes in her profiles on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and International Tennis Federation (ITF) websites.
Although Latvia is no longer listed as the athlete’s country, in the source code of Bartone’s pages, she is designated as a Belarusian tennis player. Meanwhile, representatives from Belarus and Russia continue to compete under a neutral status at WTA and ITF tournaments.
An additional confirmation of the possible changes is Bartone’s appearance in the ranking of the Belarusian Tennis Federation, where Minsk is indicated as her training location.
Judging by the athlete’s posts on Instagram Stories, she has primarily been in Belarus in recent months. Last weekend, Bartone also participated in one of the local tennis tournaments.
So far, there has been no official announcement regarding the change of sports representation. The Secretary General of the Latvian Tennis Union, Ivan Kuzovenkov, stated that the federation has not been in contact with the tennis player since winter and has not received any information about such a decision.
Changing sports representation may affect the athlete’s interaction with the national federation; however, participation in international tournaments is regulated by the rules of the respective tennis organizations.
Currently, Kamilla Bartone is ranked 808th in the WTA world rankings. She has not competed in professional tournaments since mid-May.
