More than 2,00,000 barrels of radioactive waste were dumped into the Northeast Atlantic Ocean during the second half of the 20th century – between 1946 and 1990. They have been sitting thousands of metres below the surface ever since, largely out of sight and difficult to study.
Now scientists have gone down for a closer look.
