Ruby Rose has shared what she claims are texts from Hayden Panettiere, in which the late star said she “sobbed” over her relationship with her estranged mother Lesley Vogel.

One of the messages, from a contact saved as “Hayden” in the Australian star’s phone, said: “I was sobbing over her cruelty yesterday thinking, my god I’m 36 and she can still cause this kind of pain.

“I’m her only child left and this is how she wants to handle the situation?!”

She appeared to be responding to a message from Rose, 40, discussing toxic mothers.

“It’s an unnatural position to be placed in. Because they did not act or behave like mothers. So we are wounded from them, but the idea of a mother is still so powerful to us,” Rose said.

“All of that lands,” Panettiere’s reported reply said.

The Orange Is the New Black star shared another message, in which Panettiere appeared to say she wanted to create a series that explored tough parts of her story.

“I’d love to do a podcast/Anthony Bourdain show where we talk about issues and then go to the ends of the earth to find solutions,” the text read.

The messages have no visible timestamp and have not been verified as being from Panettiere.

Rose has spoken out passionately following the late Heroes star’s death on Sunday (Monday AEST), responding to media and fans on Threads.

“Our Hayden didn’t have demons. FFS she was a demon hunter,” she said in one post, also labelling Panettiere her “protector” in another.

They came as also Rose shared a cryptic message to Instagram, writing: “I have so much I want to say about our dear Hayden.”

“If the roles were reversed, she would have sorted this already. Our brave, courageous H faced everything head on. She was fearless,” she said.

Rose claimed she needed more time to “get this right” for Panettiere’s 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, and believed more information would come to light.

“Wait for all the information. And don’t take it from her estranged mother. Or any of her abusers. She worked too hard and came too far for this bullshit. I promise you.”

Rose’s messages came after Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, released a widely criticised statement which reflected on her daughter’s challenges and slammed her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson.

“I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments,” she told NBC News.

“And I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry – it is a struggle, and it’s a very challenging industry, and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.”

Vogel said she believed her daughter had “sadly lost her way”.

Vogel added: “This person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death, and that was Brian Hickerson.”

After criticism, Vogel told Entertainment Tonight she was estranged from her daughter but “it was not for lack of care or love”.

“It was due to a toxic individual who I believe led to her death,” Vogel said.
