Carr was able to convince Cook, Mat Feagai and Tyrell Sloan to make the move from the Dragons to the English Super League in 2027.

But Carr’s departure has led to speculation that the futures of the three Dragons are up in the air.

At his post-match press conference following the 44-14 loss to the Bulldogs, Cook didn’t say he was definitely heading to Castleford.

“No, nothing really,” Cook said when asked if he had any new information on the situation.

“A couple of weeks ago I sort of asked the question, but other than that, I just left it to them because I just want to really enjoy the end of my NRL career.

“I’ll let them sort it out over there. I just really want to enjoy myself and the best way we can do that is playing really good footy and hopefully get the next two wins and put the club in a good position moving forward.”

Castleford Tigers confirmed Carr “left the club due to personal reasons” with the club’s owner releasing a statement to silence the “frustrating media hysteria”.

Carr joined the Super League club ahead of their 2026 season, signing a three-year deal before a club investigation saw him stood down without a public explanation.

Tigers owner Martin Jepson released a statement on Friday, revealing some “unforeseen events” led to the club making the decision to part ways with their head coach.

“I am sorry that Ryan Carr has left the club, but I wish him and his family well for their future,” Jepson wrote in the statement.

“We have had a difficult set of circumstances to deal with and unfortunately not been in a position to provide more information to the fans. However, our actions have been, and always will be, in the best interests of the club.

“It has been frustrating to listen to media hysteria without being able to comment, but we have had to do the right thing by the club.

“I would assure our fanbase that there is no turmoil or disharmony amongst the Board and the club is in a good place as we plan for our Centenary and continue to build for 2027.

“Unfortunately, in all walks of life there are unforeseen events, but we have some experienced people working alongside me and helping steer the club. Their support over the last few weeks has been invaluable.”

The 38-year-old mentor previously led the Dragons as an interim coach, recruiting Red V players Cook, Feagai and Sloan ahead of the 2027 season.

Carr’s departure cast doubt on that trio’s arrival, but Jepson made it clear that he had already been in contact with the NRL stars.

“I appreciate that our performances on the pitch have been inconsistent and below expectations,” he wrote.

“That is something we are addressing for 2027 with the exciting signings we have already made. We continue to assess our options and do not rule out more signings.

“On the subject of signings, Chris Chester and myself had a good call with all Damien, Mathew and Tyrell yesterday and all of them are finalising their moves and looking forward to joining the club.”

During Carr’s time away from the Tigers, Sloan was the first to speak out, saying he had been “left in the dark” about his former coach’s future.

“It definitely puts a big dent in things for me, I’ll be honest,” Sloan said to the SMH.

“Carry was a big reason why I signed over there. Obviously we had a relationship here at the Dragons and I don’t really know the situation with him. We’ve been left in the dark.

“I’m really excited to go over there if Carry is there, but I just don’t know if that’s going to be the case there. Hopefully I’ll find out soon what’s going on and they make a decision.

“I have thought about [trying to stay in the NRL], but I also have to keep playing good footy here to finish the season on a high.”
