Toowoomba hosted a strong day of Downs rugby finals on August 22, showcasing a mix of tight and dominating wins across the games, with a different team winning each division.
While the day was overcast the rain held off, allowing for all four finals games to be played in clear weather.

The finals were held at the Clive Berghofer Stadium in Toowoomba to determine the season winners of the Risdon Cup, the Black Isuzu Cup, the Bill Flamsteed Cup, and the Es Dooney Hayes Cup.
The Dalby Wheatmen defeated Chinchilla in a tight match in the C grade final, and St George defeated Goondiwindi in the B grade in a game that saw both teams swapping the lead throughout.
In the women’s game, the Condamine Codettes were strong against the Toowoomba Rangers, led for the entirety of the match, and won with the biggest points gap of the day.
The day of finals ended with the Goondiwindi Emus winning the Risdon Cup for the first time in five years – marking a record-breaking 17th title for the club.
The A grade Emu’s opponents, the Roma Echidnas, made it to the A grade Downs finals for the first time in 25 years, and fought hard until the end, achieving the final try of the match with just minutes to spare.
A grade: Goondiwindi defeated Roma 38-20
Women’s: Condamine defeated Toowoomba Rangers 46-10
B grade: St George defeated Goondiwindi 29-26
C grade: Dalby defeated Chinchilla 10-7
