The All Blacks have returned to the top of the World Rugby rankings following their impressive 33-16 victory over the Springboks at Ellis Park.
South Africa went into the opening Test of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry sitting at number one, but their defeat in Johannesburg has seen them surrender top spot to New Zealand.
The Springboks lost 1.75 rating points as a result of the defeat, with the All Blacks gaining the same amount to move clear at the summit.

All Blacks replace Springboks as world number one
With the top two sides going head-to-head, the winner at Ellis Park was always going to finish the weekend as the number one ranked team in the world.
However, the All Blacks’ 17-point winning margin ensured they collected the maximum number of ranking points available.
New Zealand now sit on 94.03 points, giving them a 1.82-point advantage over the Springboks, who have dropped to second on 92.21.
The All Blacks produced a clinical display in Johannesburg, outscoring the hosts five tries to one.
Will Jordan crossed twice, while Josh Moorby, Fabian Holland and Luke Jacobson also touched down for New Zealand.
Andre Esterhuizen scored South Africa’s only try, with Cheslin Kolbe kicking the remainder of the Springboks’ points.
Springboks can reclaim top spot
The battle for number one is far from over, with the two great rivals set to meet again in Cape Town next weekend.
South Africa will have the opportunity to immediately reclaim the summit, with a victory of any kind enough to move them back above New Zealand.
It means the world’s number one ranking will once again be on the line when the Springboks and All Blacks collide in the second Test.
