England fast bowler Brydon Carse’s nightclub controversy has taken another turn, with Derbyshire Police now investigating “allegations of assault” following the incident that saw him handcuffed outside a Derby venue.
Carse was dropped from England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan, beginning at Lord’s on Thursday, after the Cricket Regulator launched an investigation into the weekend incident.

The Durham paceman was initially arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being de-arrested after agreeing to leave the area.
But Derbyshire Police provided a significant update late Wednesday.
“We are investigating allegations of assault in Derby city centre,” police said in a statement.
“No arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.”

There is currently no clarity over what role, if any, Carse had in the alleged assault, while the England and Wales Cricket Board is yet to publicly comment on the latest development.
Police had initially confirmed Carse’s detention after footage emerged appearing to show the England quick handcuffed in the street.
“A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Derby city centre on Saturday night,” the initial statement read.
“However the man was de-arrested shortly afterwards having agreed to leave the area.”
Former England captain Ben Stokes and centrally contracted seamer Matthew Potts also appeared in footage captured following Durham’s County Championship victory over Derbyshire, although there is no suggestion either was involved in any wrongdoing.

The incident has added to concerns surrounding England’s off-field behaviour, with Test captain Joe Root making his frustration clear earlier this week.
“If I’m being brutally honest I’m really hacked off,” Root said.
“I’ve spoken to Brydon and when I first found out my first concern was him as a person.
“I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn in saying he’s very upset, very apologetic and understands his actions.”

Root stressed his frustration extended beyond the latest incident, pointing towards a series of off-field controversies involving the England set-up.
“But it’s not the isolated incident itself, it’s the fact we continuously keep making stupid mistakes away from the game and it’s detracting from what we are doing on the field.”
Carse will now miss the second Test against Pakistan as both the police investigation and Cricket Regulator probe continue.
