Nepal does not need help from other countries to conduct search and rescue operations after a devastating flash flood wrecked towns, its foreign ministry said on Friday.

“The offer for help is natural. Our security agencies are doing the search and rescue operation. For now, we don’t require such help,” Lok Bahadur Chhetri, spokesperson for the foreign ministry, said on Friday.

Nepal wants cash contributions instead, The Kathmandu Post reported, stating that additional aid and support would be sought after immediate rescue efforts.

According to The Kathmandu Post, the decision comes after the government’s experience with the 2015 earthquake, which killed 8962 people and injured almost 22,000 across Nepal, India, China and Bangladesh. Many foreign search and rescue teams from other countries caused co-ordination and management issues, officials said.

The Nepal government declined the Indian government’s request to deploy its National Disaster Response Force to Nepal, The Kathmandu Post reported, after hundreds of its nationals went missing or were uncontactable following the floods.
