Australian tennis legend Pat Cash has announced he’s engaged to his “soulmate”.
Cash, who is in New York for the US Open, revealed he proposed to partner Charlotte Hodson.
“Every now and then, life can surprise you in the very best way,’’ he wrote on social media.
“I’m so incredibly lucky to know that through an amazing string of coincidences I found my soulmate. I can’t help but believe God had it all planned to perfection. She said yes.”
Hodson, a singer/songwriter and massage therapist, first appeared publicly with Cash at Wimbledon last year.
Cash, the Melbourne raised commentator and coach, posed alongside his love while mingling in the royal box.
The 61 year-old, who famously won Wimbledon in 1987 over Ivan Lendl, has largely kept out of the spotlight with his private life.
He has four children and became a dad at 21 — previously married to Emily Bendit with whom he has twin sons, and prior to that, he had two children with his then-girlfriend, Norwegian model Anne-Britt Kristiansen, in his early twenties.
At age 44 he became a grandfather.
In 2011 Cash was romantically linked to TV host Tania Zaetta.
He posted with his rarely seen adult sons at Wimbledon this year, saying it was special having them by his side.
In 2014 he said his children saved his life, telling The Guardian: “If it wasn’t for my kids, I might have killed myself. I suffered from severe depression from the age of 19 until 35. It’s no secret I experimented with drugs when I was younger, but the real issue was why I felt the need to. It was down to the stress I was under playing for my country, the expectations I put on myself and the expectations people put on me. I ended up checking into rehab for depression. Things got better when I retired from playing professionally.”
