DEER PARK, Wash. — As the back nine of the SWX Dream 18 summer golf series rolls to a close, Austin Getz and Noah Schmick made the trip to take on hole No. 17 at Deer Park Golf Club, a course they have never played throughout the Dream 18 series.

Hole No. 17 at Deer Park is a 514-yard par 5 that is a risk-reward hole with the right side lined with trees and the left side lined with bunkers and an out-of-bounds line. There is a water hazard just before the green, which makes it a difficult decision for golfers on whether to go for the green and risk ending up in the water, or lay up and play it safe.

“If you don’t hit it left, you got to hit it over the water the whole way, because off the tee, there’s a grove of trees that if you go right, it blocks you out, kind of takes away that opportunity to go for the green in two,” said head pro Matt Nosbaum. “The best bet is to hit it left, hit it into the fairway, have 100 yards in. There’s a great opening, but it’s a tough hole coming in because there’s a lot of water. I’ve seen 3s, I’ve seen 10s, I’ve seen rounds get messed up here.”

Neither Getz nor Schmick was able to make it to the green in two, but after playing the hole safely, they both found themselves there in regulation with a chance to make par.

Schmick nearly finished the hole with a birdie as his first putt attempt rolled around the cup and did not drop, but both set themselves up for success and finished the hole with par. This marks the first time this summer that both golfers finished with par or better on the same hole.

Through 17 holes of the Dream 18, with par sitting at 74, Schmick is 30-over (104), while Getz is 51-over (125).
