Jamar Smith has bid farewell to basketball. The American guard posted a message on Instagram that appears to mark the end of his long playing career: “Thank you, it was one hell of a run we had.”

After playing college basketball at Illinois and Southern Indiana, Smith joined the Maine Red Claws in the NBA Development League. His European career included spells with Bamberg, Limoges, Malaga, UNICS Kazan and Bahçeşehir before three seasons with Pallacanestro Reggiana.

“No way did I expect this journey after falling in love with the game,” Smith wrote. “Words can’t put into context how monumental the game has been to my mental toughness and who I am. You’ve been one of my favorite love stories.”
