A synopsis for the show teases: “Series 7 of All Creatures Great and Small returns viewers to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in 1946.

“With the war finally over, Skeldale House is full once again and livelier than ever as our beloved characters reunite under one roof and look ahead to a hopeful new chapter.

“James is excited about new developments in veterinary medicine, but a new vet in the area threatens the status quo.

“The world at large may be changing, but inside this slice of Yorkshire, the Dales will always offer the same perfect escapism. Packed with warmth, humour and community spirit, the series brings more heartwarming tales of people and animals alike.”

Based on James Herriot’s books of the same name, an eighth season of the show was also announced alongside the seventh back in November 2025, with a release date for season eight yet to be announced.

McCoy previously teased what fans could expect from season seven, including a possible romance between her character Dorothy and Samuel West’s Siegfried Farnon.

Speaking to Radio Times, she said: “There’s lots that connects them, which I think is really lovely.”

However, she added: “As much as the relationship with Siegfried was interesting, the one that was really special to me was the one with Mrs Hall.

“I think sometimes that gets overlooked because we want to focus on the romance, but they’ve been in the Wrens (Women’s Royal Naval Service) together, they’ve gone through a huge amount in terms of their journey as women through and past the war, so to go back and to give that more depth and to show more was really, really quite special.”

All Creatures Great and Small season seven begins on 5 at 9pm on Thursday, 17 September.
