Three players whose LIV Golf future hang in the balance teed up in the first stage of DP World Tour Q School – but one is already out of contention following disqualification…
As uncertainty around the future of LIV Golf continues to swirl, many of the league’s players are doing all they can to secure playing rights for the 2027 season.
While the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will have little concern about picking up starts on the DP World Tour, others are having to work a bit harder. That includes their Legion XIII teammate Caleb Surratt, who has entered a couple of HotelPlanner Tour events in recent weeks, and the trio of Josele Ballester, Luis Masaveu and Peter Uihlein, who all teed up in last week’s first stage of the DP World Tour’s grueling Q School experience.
With the top 19 at Huddersfield Golf Club in England going through to the second stage, Fireballs pair Ballester and Masaveu are safely through, finishing in 8th and 14th respectively, but Uihlein was disqualified after failing to show up for Friday’s third round.
Uihlein, who has represented both Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces and Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats since joining LIV Golf in 2022, carded rounds of 74 and 73 to sit 7-over-par at the halfway point, and the American clearly decided he was too far back.
Former LIV Golf player Chase Koepka, who played with brother Brooks’ on Smash GC for two season and earning north of $8 million in the process, was also in the field – but he finished in a tie for 20th on the leaderboard and one spot out of the qualifying spots.
