The former chairman of the Kennedy Center, who was ousted by President Donald Trump after he took control in 2025, bought the piece for more than $2 million with the intention to eventually display it in the Sculpture Garden of the National Gallery of Art, where Rubenstein serves as chairman of the board of trustees. The purchase was first reported by the New York Times.
