NBA legend Steve Nash never lifted the Larry O’Brien trophy during his career, but he won several individual accolades.
Among them, Nash’s back-to-back NBA MVPs in 2005 and 2006 remain his biggest achievement for the Phoenix Suns icon.
However, Nash’s two MVPs have been heavily criticized, particularly by fans of late LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

The debate once again caught fire on social media, thanks to Nash’s former Suns teammate Jim Jackson’s 2018 take claiming Bryant was the better player during the legendary point guard’s MVP seasons.
Upon seeing this, former NBA veteran Eddie Johnson slammed Bryant’s fanbase for using Jackson’s take to discredit Nash’s achievements.
“No, the best player in the league for his team those back-to-back years was Steve Nash. If it’s one on one basketball. Kobe was better,” Johnson wrote on X.
He added, “But the Suns were a bottom team until Nash did what he did. Get over it. Based on this thought, LBJ should have won 8 MVPs.”
While it’s true that, numbers-wise, Bryant was simply phenomenal during Nash’s MVP seasons, Johnson believes the PG’s impact is what helped him clinch the honor in back-to-back years.
Johnson put the debate to rest by claiming that if the NBA used Kobe fans’ logic, it would lead to LeBron James having eight MVP awards as opposed to his four right now.
