Detroit Pistons 2026-27 Odds, Predictions and Best Bets

Detroit finished 60-22 with the league’s third-best defence at 109.7 points allowed per 100 possessions and a 10th-ranked offence at 117.9. Cunningham averaged 23.9 points, 9.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds across 64 games and finished fifth in MVP voting. Duren, 22, posted 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. Thompson averaged 2.0 steals to lead the NBA, made All-Defensive First Team and finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Victor Wembanyama. A glance at the season statistics tells you how lopsided the East really was: nobody else in the conference won more than 52.

The playoffs exposed the one thing the regular season had hidden. Orlando led the first-round series 3-1 — Game 4 was a 94-88 grind in which Detroit’s half-court offence stalled completely — before the Pistons won three straight. Cleveland then took the second round in seven. Cunningham was superb, averaging 28.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists across the postseason while being doubled on almost every touch, but the shooters around him could not punish the extra defender often enough.

Those two series should not be read as a ceiling. They should be read as a roster with one creator, one shooter and three players opponents were happy to leave open, and that is the cheapest problem in basketball to fix. Trajan Langdon spent the summer fixing it. Before you back any Eastern Conference side this winter, compare the full slate of sports betting odds available to Canadian players, because on this roster the market’s opinion is more interesting than its price.

Four Books, One Price — and a Raptors Comparison That Should Not Hold

The four books Canadian bettors actually use are unusually aligned on the outright. Stake posts 26.00, 1xBet posts 26.00, BetPlays posts 26.00, and Tonybet shades to 25.98. The value lives in the derivative and award markets, not the headline number.

The positioning is the story. On the Stake board, Detroit and Toronto are both 26.00 to win it all and both 9.50 to win the East, with Philadelphia (4.00), New York (4.30) and Boston (6.25) ahead of them. On 1xBet, the Pistons, Raptors, Cavaliers, Nuggets and Timberwolves are all lumped together at 26.00, and in the runner-up market Toronto (14) and Detroit (14) are again identical. At Tonybet, Toronto’s 25.98 matches Detroit’s to the cent.

Toronto is a good team that pushed Cleveland to seven in the first round. Detroit is the team that won 14 more regular-season games, owns the better defence by a distance and has the conference’s best player. The books are pricing the memory of the Cleveland Game 7 rather than the 82 games before it, and that is a mistake Canadian bettors can exploit rather than one they should share. Compare the sports betting lines on every Eastern futures market before you settle on which side of that gap you want to be on.

Langdon did not chase a second star, and that looks like the right call. He made four one-for-one swaps, each aimed at the same weakness: too many players defences could ignore beyond the arc.

John Collins is the centrepiece, signed to a three-year, US$51 million deal and routed to Detroit through a six-team trade involving the Clippers, Wizards, Grizzlies, Mavericks and Bucks. Collins averaged 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds on 55.2% shooting and 40.6% from three with the Clippers. He replaces Tobias Harris, who left for San Antonio after a season of 13.3 points built on mid-range jumpers that cramped Cunningham’s spacing. Collins takes only around three threes a game but has made 40% of them two seasons running, and — this is the part that matters more — he is a genuine rim-runner. Harris was neither a spacer nor a roller. Collins is both, which gives the Cunningham pick-and-roll a second option when Duren sits and a pick-and-pop partner when he plays.

Isaiah Stewart went to Memphis on draft night, with Paul Reed — an overqualified third centre for two years — promoted into his minutes and Taurean Prince and Gary Harris arriving from Milwaukee as veteran cover. Stewart was the heart of the Bad Boys revival and a player every opponent left open; Reed fills a box score in a hurry and gives J.B. Bickerstaff a bench piece with a real ceiling. Caris LeVert, who shot 41.7% overall and 33.3% from deep for Detroit, went to Milwaukee, and Isaiah Joe came in from Oklahoma City with four straight seasons above 40% from three. Marcus Sasser went to Dallas, opening a guard spot for Ebuka Okorie, the 17th overall pick acquired from Memphis for the rights to Karim López and three second-rounders. Kevin Huerter and Javonte Green both re-signed on multi-year deals; Huerter is a bet on a return to his early-career shooting after two poor seasons, and it is the one move that is hard to endorse.

The unsettled part is Duren. The restricted free agent wants north of US$40 million a season; Detroit’s five-year offer sits near US$35 million a year. His US$9.6 million qualifying offer expires on 1 October, and his 2022 draft classmates Chet Holmgren, Paolo Banchero and Jalen Williams have all already signed 25% max extensions. Thompson’s extension — expected to land around five years and US$162 million — is also still unsigned. Once Duren signs, Detroit will carry 16 standard contracts, one over the limit, so a small trade or a cut of Prince or Harris is coming before the 20 October opener. The likeliest outcome is that Duren’s deal gets done before the qualifying offer lapses. Staking a futures ticket on that expectation is not advisable, because a 22-year-old All-NBA centre who feels undervalued by the team he just carried to 60 wins is the one thing that can sour a locker room built on togetherness.

OPEN AN ACCOUNT AT 1XBETThe Rotation, From Locks to Long Shots

The seven locks are Cunningham, Duren, Thompson, Duncan Robinson, Reed, Ron Holland II and Collins. Robinson earned his place by finishing 12th in the league with 220 made threes on 41% shooting. Holland, 21, is the internal-growth bet in year three and already a defensive nuisance. Behind them, Joe, Huerter, Daniss Jenkins and Green compete for what could become an 11-man rotation. Jenkins, who went from a two-way deal to a standard contract and finished sixth on the team in playoff minutes, is the likely backup point guard and, arguably, the most important bench player on the roster — the secondary creator who has to punish the double teams that broke Detroit’s offence in May. Okorie, Chaz Lanier and Tolu Smith wait in the wings.

The opening five should be Cunningham, Robinson, Thompson, Collins and Duren, and it is the group Bickerstaff should ride. Collins gives Cunningham both a pick-and-pop threat and roll gravity he never had with Harris, while Thompson and Duren remain the defensive spine. The lineup to avoid is the tempting one: swapping Collins for Joe to stack shooters around Cunningham, Robinson, Thompson and Duren. It spaces the floor, but it strips the wing defence and pushes even more onto Cunningham because nobody else in the group can create. Joe’s value is with the second unit, and that is exactly where the Sixth Man and bench-scoring angles below come from.

SIGN UP AT STAKEA Brutal First Week and Two Raptors Dates

Detroit opens on 20 October at home to Boston — last season’s top two Eastern seeds — and then goes straight on the road to Miami, Philadelphia and New York, four playoff opponents inside a week. The NBA Cup group stage runs from 30 October to 27 November and brings Toronto to Little Caesars Arena on 20 November, with Milwaukee following on 27 November. Cleveland visits on 18 December for the first meeting since the Game 7, and the two clubs meet again at noon on MLK Day, 19 January, in Cleveland. New York comes in on 3 February for the NBA Pioneers Classic, and San Antonio makes its only Detroit trip on 27 March. The Pistons drew 19 national television games and 14 back-to-backs; the complete regular-season schedule is worth bookmarking.

For Canadian bettors the Toronto meetings are the ones to circle, and the 20 November Cup game in particular. Two teams the books consider identical, one of which won 14 more games last season, is a live line-shopping opportunity every time they meet — and Toronto also visits Detroit in the preseason on 16 October if you want an early look at how Collins fits.

The fair range for this team is an Eastern Conference Finals ceiling and a first-round-exit floor. The ceiling is not a title, because Langdon did not do enough to close the gap on the Spurs and Thunder, and there is no point pretending otherwise. The floor is real, because six or seven Eastern teams can win a series. What deserves adding is that this group has tended to play its best basketball when it is being written off, and a 26.00 title price level with the Raptors is about as written off as a 60-win team gets.

Best Bets and Predicted FinishBest Bet: Pistons to win the Eastern Conference (9.50 at Stake). A 10.5% implied chance for the reigning No. 1 seed that kept its three best players, upgraded two starting spots with shooters and owns the third-best defence in basketball is the softest number on the Detroit board. Philadelphia at 4.00 and New York at 4.30 are shorter for reasons; Toronto at the same 9.50 is the tell that the market has not priced the gap.Value play: Daniss Jenkins, Sixth Man of the Year (36.00 at 1xBet). A spot-up shooter and secondary playmaker who finished sixth on a 60-win team in playoff minutes and now inherits the backup point guard role outright after Sasser and LeVert left. The obvious competition for bench touches is Joe, but voters reward the guard with the ball in his hands, and a 2.8% implied chance is a generous entry.Longshot flier: Ebuka Okorie, Rookie of the Year (151.00 at Stake). The 19-year-old sits behind an All-NBA guard on a 60-win team, so minutes are the problem, and Cameron Boozer, Darryn Peterson and AJ Dybantsa are all under 6.00 for good reason. But his quickness and scoring instinct are the kind that force a coach’s hand by January, and 151.00 versus 100.00 at 1xBet is a 50% better payout on the same ticket. Novelty stake only.Raptors angle: take Detroit over Toronto wherever the two are priced identically, and buy after the opening week. Boston, Miami, Philadelphia and New York in six days, possibly with a centre who signed his contract a fortnight earlier, is the stretch most likely to lengthen the Pistons’ price. If Detroit emerges 2-2 or better, the 26.00 will not survive November.Predicted finish: second in the Eastern Conference at 56-26, a second-round series against Cleveland or Philadelphia, and a first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2008 if Collins’ shooting does what Harris’ could not.
