The Perth Wildcats’ point guard vacancy has been highly publicised, but the club are reportedly getting closer to filling it ahead of the start of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season.
According to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc, the Wildcats are showing interest in NBA star Brandon Knight, who the team reportedly had talks with prior to last season’s signing deadline.
Knight played nine seasons in the NBA, enjoying stints at Detroit, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Houston and Dallas, producing averages of 14 points, 3.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds per contest.
Most recently, Knight has spent time in Puerto Rico (Piratas de Quebradillas, Capitanes de Arecibo and Mets de Guaynabo) and Greece (AEK Athens).
Of note, Knight won MVP and led the Puerto Rican League in scoring 23.3 points a game in 2023 with Piratas de Quebradillas.
One name to keep an eye on in the Perth Wildcats’ search for an import point guard is Brandon Knight, sources told ESPN. The team had talks with the 6’2 guard – who played 9 years in the NBA – at the deadline last season; word is they’ve shown interest in him leading into #NBL27.

As exciting as this news could be for Wildcats fans, Perth’s GM Danny Mills reiterated recently that the club weren’t going to rush their point guard signing, rather taking their time to find the right fit.
“We are in a ton of conversations and evaluating the market still to see what could potentially come up,” Mills said to The West Australian.
“We’re going to bring in the right guy. We waited and got [Kristian] Doolittle, and then we waited and got [Dylan] Windler.
“With where our roster is now and with who we brought in this year and who the guys are who are returning, we are going to be very strategic on who we bring in. It’s about patience. We’re not going to just bring a guy in to bring a guy in.”
The Wildcats are currently in Japan contesting the 2026 Island Games, with their next game coming against Ryukyu Golden Kings on Thursday night.
