That means Stetson Bennett has won the No. 2 quarterback job behind Matthew Stafford, at least to begin the season. The Rams held a competition between Bennett and Simpson this summer to replace Jimmy Garoppolo in that role, and they are going with the player with multiple years in the system over a rookie who was the No. 13 pick in the draft. At least for right now.
The Rams won’t have a single member of this year’s draft class in this game. Simpson, Daniels and Klare are inactive, they released seventh-round nose tackle Tim Keenan III, and third-round offensive lineman Keegan Trost is on injured reserve. But that’s also a symptom of having a roster as loaded as this one is.
