Jennifer Lawrence’s first-ever foray into social media might be over before it even began, after the actress threatened to quit her just-launched Instagram account if she encounters any trolls.
Lawrence, who had long refrained from public social accounts, officially joined the platform overnight, amassing three million followers under a username that doubles as her Hollywood nickname, J-Law – because “Jennifer Lawrence was taken,” she explained in her bio.

Soon after debuting her profile – which came complete with a hilarious display picture of herself in a hairdressing chair – Lawrence shared a video warning fans that she’ll just as easily deactivate her account if she receives any hate comments.
“I am giving it a shot and if anyone says anything negative I will quit immediately, no questions asked,” the Oscar-winner said, before joking that “if anyone even thinks something mean, I will know and I will quit.”
The Hunger Games star doubled-down on the sentiments on her Instagram Story, sharing a text post asking her millions of new followers to “Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby.
“It’s me. I’m the baby,” she quipped.
Lawrence has so far followed 46 accounts on her official profile, including talk show host Stephen Colbert, her previous co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Leonardo DiCaprio, and all of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, among others.
Other celebrity pals rushed to welcome Lawrence to Instagram in the comments section of her video, with actress Joey King writing “thank God you’re here” and Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp saying “this is the best day of my life.”
It brings an end to Lawrence’s long-running opposition to joining social media, having been one of the few A-listers of her generation to have no official online presence. In 2019, she said the decision to not join any platforms was to avoid all “the backlash.”
“There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything,” Lawrence. told InStyle.
“I really don’t want to welcome that unless it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me,” she added.
While the actress previously had no public platforms, she has admitted to lurking mysteriously online under an anonymous username. “I had a secret life on TikTok,” she told Fandango last year. “I get in fights in the comment section. One girl was like, ‘How old are you? Get a life!’”
