Women’s Rugby Takes Down Army in Second Half Comeback

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The La Salle women’s rugby team came back with a vengeance in the second half to secure a 27-7 victory over Army in West Point, Friday night.

Alyssa Williams led the way with two tries as the Explorers scored 27 unanswered points to erase a 7-0 halftime deficit.

Army opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a try and conversion, carrying that advantage into the break.

Williams put La Salle on the board in the 59th minute, and Jocelyn Terry added the conversion to tie the match at 7-7. Maeve Delaney followed with a try in the 68th minute, with Terry’s second conversion giving the Explorers a 14-7 lead.

Williams crossed for her second try in the 73rd minute to extend the advantage to 19-7. Terry added a penalty kick three minutes later before Josie Hanks capped the comeback with a try in the 80th minute, sealing the 27-7 victory.

Terry finished with seven points on two conversions and a penalty kick.

The Explorers face Mount St. Mary next Saturday, September 19 in Emmitsburg, MD.
