TODD Hazelwood has waved away any injury concerns following a bitter clash with James Moffat in the Trans Am Cup Series at The Bend.
The duo traded blows on-track in the dying stages of Race 2 this afternoon as Hazelwood tried to seize the lead from Moffat.
That boiled over at the second-last corner of the contest, with repeated contact.
Moffat ended up hanging on to take the chequered flag ahead of Nathan Herne – who he’ll team up with for the Repco Bathurst 1000 in a Garry Rogers Motorsport wildcard. Lachlan Evennett was third, with Hazelwood limping home in fourth.
Post-race, Hazelwood was spotted clutching at his shoulder and was quickly ushered by Dick Johnson Racing driver Brodie Kostecki and team manager Tom Moore back to the Supercars paddock to be treated by the Shell squad’s team performance coach Paul Haines.
“I’m okay,” Hazelwood later assured via the AirTouch 500 at The Bend broadcast.
“Just a bit of a ding-dong battle there towards the end of that Trans Am race.
“The #1 Four’N Twenty Mustang we gave a big tune-up overnight and were fighting for the lead there and just it was pretty average driving by Moffat, I just was absolutely drilled off the track, three rounds in a row by him, so pretty disappointing.
“But anyway, bigger and better things to focus on now.”
Natsoft results for Trans Am Race 2 were still listed as provisional at the time of publication.
Kostecki/Hazelwood are the defending winners of Supercars’ Bend 500.
