He argued that while football itself is great, he takes issue with the industry surrounding it, noting that players are not treated well.
“The money is not great because it’s not fully guaranteed. Health insurance isn’t that great. I don’t rock with how they don’t take care of their players,” Powell said.
“All the CTE stuff, they sweep it under the rug. I don’t mess with the whole industry around football even though I love watching it. I don’t like how they treat their players,” he added.
Powell signs with Bulls after All-Star season with Miami
Powell signed a two-year, $45 million deal with the Chicago Bulls after a strong season with the Miami Heat, where he became one of the team’s main scoring options and earned his first NBA All-Star selection.
The 33-year-old arrives in Chicago as a veteran wing who can immediately give the Bulls another reliable offensive option, especially next to rising star Matas Buzelis and rookie Caleb Wilson.
During the 2025-26 regular season, Powell averaged 21.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for Miami while shooting 47.0% from the field.
