A woman will be charged with killing two cyclists after she allegedly drove a car into their group in northern Canberra last month.
Bridie Lee, Ryan Riethmuller and three other cyclists were riding on Gungahlin Drive in northern Canberra after 6 am on 27 August 2026 when a Hyundai Accent crashed into their group.
Tragically, 32-year-old Ms Lee died at the scene. Mr Riethmuller, 39, was taken to hospital, before he also died a week later.
A 34-year-old man had been treated at hospital before being released on the day of the crash.
The five cyclists had been riding as part of the Canberra Bilbys Triathlon Club’s regular cycling group that morning.
An ACT Policing spokesperson said officers from the Major Collision Team began an investigation before issuing the 40-year-old female driver with a summons on Friday (18 September).
She is expected to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court on 20 October to face two counts of culpable driving causing death and one count of negligent driving causing actual bodily harm.
