The statement said Farnham was “deeply moved” by the tribute concert and public concern.
“If things were different, John would have loved nothing more than to attend the concert. He would undoubtedly have been a little overwhelmed by all the fuss, but he would also have wanted to thank everyone involved in person.
“As a family, we have decided that it is best for John to remain at home, where he can be safe and comfortable,” read the family’s statement from wife Jill and sons Robert and James.

Farnham’s career took off in 1967 with his hit Sadie the Cleaning Lady. He joined Little River Band in 1982 before finding further solo success in 1986 with Whispering Jack – which included the smash hit You’re the Voice.
The Melbourne tribute will feature artists such as Keith Urban, Richard Marx, Jimmy Barnes, Vanessa Amorosi and Robert Farnham, among others.
