New York | Australia Post chairwoman and former News Corp executive Siobhan McKenna has been appointed as Australia’s next consul-general in New York, replacing economist and industry chief Heather Ridout when her term expires at the end of the year.
Making the announcement while in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese dismissed suggestions that her close relationship with the Murdochs would influence how she represents Australia, including whether she would try to advance her former employer’s business interests.
