After taking listeners inside the multi-billion-dollar Marinus Link in its inaugural episode, the Energy Magazine Podcast welcomes Bluecurrent interim chief executive officer Richard Fink for its next instalment.
A smart metering data services company that calls Amazon one of its biggest clients, Bluecurrent owns and manages more than 2.8 million smart meters and processes over two billion intervals of data a day.
Host Tom Parker picks Fink’s brain about one of the most overlooked opportunities in the energy transition, which could have the equivalent impact as two million home batteries.
Fink also discusses how the Cheaper Home Batteries scheme is already influencing Australia’s energy system, and why the smart meter rollout is more than just swapping out boxes on homes and businesses.
This movement is in fact enabling the next phase of Australia’s energy transition.
“(With smart meters), Australians have more ways to generate energy at a household or business level, but also more flexible ways of using that energy,” Fink said. “The industry is trying to bring these two curves together in the most efficient way possible.
“If done correctly, we can improve the resilience of the system and hopefully mitigate costs.”
