Hugh Jackman has upset both Deborra-Lee Furness and Sutton Foster after he recently made a shady comment about red flags while promoting his new film, The Death of Robin Hood.
The Aussie actor was speaking to History Extra about his thriller film, which came out in June this year, when he was asked what he thought were the biggest green flags and red flags of his character, an ageing Robin Hood who faces a reckoning for his violent past.
Jackman, 57, light-heartedly answered that the best thing about his character was, no doubt, his survival skills.
“Hunting. Helpful, right? If you’re hungry, he’s the guy you want,” he shared.
However, his one-word verdict on Hood’s red flags is what raised some eyebrows.
“Commitment,” he quipped.
Now, an insider has told Woman’s Day that the comment has gone down like a lead balloon with his ex-wife, 70, and current girlfriend, 51.
“Deb is annoyed for obvious reasons – why didn’t Hugh choose ‘violence’ or ‘lying’ as Robin Hood’s bad trait?” the source questioned.
“Instead he picked the one thing people have already projected onto him. As far as Deb is concerned, Hugh knows very little of commitment.”
However, Jackman’s girlfriend of nearly two years is also said to be “a bit miffed” about the comment.
“He’s begging her to set a wedding date, but she’s now worried what the kind of commitment really means to Hugh,” the insider claims.
The source added that Foster doesn’t want to “be in Deb’s position in five or 10 years’ time”.
Jackman and Foster went public with their romance in January last year and have made a number of public appearance since, attending the Met Gala in May and the premiere of Jackman’s The Death of Robin Hood three months ago.
However the timeline of their relationship has long been the subject of speculation, with the couple starring opposite each other in The Music Man on Broadway in 2023, when they were both still married to other people.
Jackman and Furness were married for 27 years before announcing their split in September 2023, with Furness making various public comments about their relationship in the wake of their divorce.
Last year, Furness told Daily Mail of her split: “My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal.”
