SUWANEE, Ga. – Jamal Hutchison of North Carolina Central shot a three-under-par 69 to share the men’s Division I title in the Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Collegiate Classic at Bear’s Best Golf Course on Tuesday. The second round was canceled due to inclement weather.
Hutchison equaled his performance as a freshman at the event to win his second collegiate golf crown. During his stellar four-year career, Hutchison, who played in the U.S. Amateur this summer, has either finished first or second at the classic three times.
Hutchison tied Quincy Leonard of Southern for first while Wesley Rodrigues of Alabama State and Cole Wiese of Arkansas-Pine Bluff tied for third with a two-under-par 70. Iszac Bertagnole of NCCU also placed in the top 10, firing a 73 to tie for sixth.
The Eagles finished fourth in the team standings with a 298, one stroke behind third-place Chicago State. Southern fired a 289 to win the team title, two strokes ahead of runner-up Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The men’s Division I field consisted of 30 golfers.
