Galway boxer, Adam Hession has been nominated for election to the European Boxing Athlete Commission.
The commission will aim to represent the views, rights, and interests of elite boxers across Europe, ensuring that athlete perspectives shape policy and the development of the sport. There are candidates from a wide range of countries also contesting the election including Turkey, Hungary, Belgium, Germany and Great Britian’s Lewis Richardson.
Adam, who is a member of Monivea Boxing Club, said “It’s a great honour to be nominated to contest this election. I have been a international athlete for many years, and have a deep understanding of the demands of High Performance training and benchmark competition. I hope to bring that perspective to the Athlete’s Commission to positively impact the development, training and competition experience for Elite athletes across the European Confederation”
The elections are taking place this Thursday and Friday the 24th and 25th of September at the European Elite Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. First up on Thursday the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the commission will be elected, with the vote on Friday electing the Athlete’s Commission members.
The European Boxing Election Committee, appointed to oversee these elections, is Garbiñe Ituño González LLM in International Sports Law from ISDE University, Spanish Attorney-at-Law and Stefan Ivanov, Professor in Elections and Electoral Systems from the New Bulgarian University, Election Observer from Transparency International.
