Victoria v New South Wales | One-Day Cup
New South Wales have begun the 2026-27 One-Day Cup with two wins after successfully defending their score against Victoria on an historic night in Melbourne.
Nic Maddinson posted a superb century to lift NSW to 252 and the Vics fell 47 runs short (DLS method) with wickets falling regularly throughout the chase.
A short rain interruption reduced the match to 49 overs per side, with the heavens opening right as Maddinson struck a straight six to bring up his hundred.

It was the 34-year-old’s seventh List A ton and his first since 2017, ending a nine-year drought in the format with a perfectly measured 50-over innings.
Second-gamer Harry Hoekstra was excellent at both ends of the innings for Victoria, finishing with 5-42. He took the first three scalps of the match and returned at the back end to capture another two, the final of which came courtesy of another spectacular Glenn Maxwell boundary catch.

Fellow second-gamer Jake Scott, who hit the winning runs in the win over Queensland on Tuesday, continued his fine start to List A cricket with a vital 43 at No.7 and 3-48 with the ball.
Maxwell and Scott Boland were the big-name inclusions for the hosts with Boland (3-46) playing his first competitive match since March.

In reply, Victoria were never in run rate danger but lost regular wickets which hampered their chase. Tanveer Sangha (2-45) controlled the middle overs while Jack Nisbet (2-40) and Ben Dwarshuis (2-34) had the ball moving consistently throughout the night.
Matt Short (45) and Blake Macdonald (46) both looked comfortable but were unable to go on with their starts. Liam Blackford was tasked with another rescue act after his 149no on debut, but the task was too great and he was the last to fall for 32.
