Manufacturer WiCi announced the first custom external graphics card based on the RTX 5060 Ti with Wi-Fi 7 wireless connectivity. Will there be enough bandwidth?

The WiCi One model contains a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics card in a separate enclosure and transfers data between it and the PC via Wi-Fi 7. The virtual driver displays the eGPU as a local graphics adapter, and it works like a regular discrete graphics card.

The base model with the RTX 5060 Ti also includes an Intel Core 3 100U processor and 1 TB of NVMe 4 storage. WiCi is also planning a version with the RTX 5090 and 32 GB of GDDR7, Core Ultra 7 255H and 4 TB of NVMe 5. The wireless connection uses Wi-Fi 7 4×4 MIMO and a 320 MHz channel. The device starts at $1999 for early adopters, and will cost $2599 for the rest. The WiCi One will begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2026, and a public demonstration will take place on October 5 and 6.

The first wireless external graphics card WiCi One with RTX 5060 Ti works over Wi-Fi

According to VideoCardz, Wi-Fi 7 has a theoretical maximum throughput of around 46.1 Gbps, compared to 80 Gbps for bidirectional Thunderbolt 5 and 64 Gbps for the PCIe 4.0 x4 xthtp OCuLink connection. Thunderbolt 5 provides up to 64 Gbps for PCIe traffic alone. The WiCi One with a 4×4 connection at 320 MHz should provide speeds of around 11.52 Gbps. So the connection doesn’t seem very fast.

But WiCi claims that its connection protocol uses caching, deduplication, compression, and pipelining to avoid having to send every request to the graphics card over a wireless connection. In the demo, the WiCi One is just a few dozen centimeters from the laptop. The company reports running Cyberpunk 2077 at 80 FPS at 4K Ultra with DLSS 4 on the RTX 5060 Ti, and Black Myth: Wukong at 60 FPS. In any case, it’s hardly the fastest external graphics card.
