“Firstly, the Air Force Museum’s BTS team takes its name from our ‘Behind-the-scenes’ (BTS) tours,” the museum said.
“These go ahead three times each day for the incredibly affordable price of $5. They’re ‘dynamite’.”
By contrast, the museum said the South Korean boy band’s name “comes from the Korean translation of ‘Bulletproof Boy Scouts’ or Bangtan Boys, depending on who you believe”.
There were also disparities between each group’s numbers and make-up, the museum said.
“The Seoul band consists of seven members: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook.
“By contrast, our BTS line-up changes each day but generally only four members – in this case Chris, Graeme, Geoff and John – take the stage.
“Some days they are not a boy band at all, thanks to our female BTS members.”
The consistency in their team’s work was another important distinction from the band, the museum said.
“Due to military service requirements, BTS took a break between 2022 and 2025 but are back in business with a tour of Latin America.
“By comparison, our BTS team never takes a break and is ready to entertain daily at 11am, 1.30pm and 3pm.
“Performances last about an hour, take in all the highlights plus the reserve collection and conservation centre, and are on 364 days a year.”
As of Sunday, more than 20,000 people had reacted to the post on Facebook, with hundreds of comments and over 1000 shares.
“…. I’m confused. Why’d you post the same guys twice??” one person commented.
“I can see where the confusion comes from,” another joked, while a third asked: “When’s the dance-off?”
Screenshots of the post were later shared on a BTS discussion page on Reddit, prompting praise for the museum’s BTS team and their photo re-enactment.
“This is really fun and cute and honestly a great way to advertise this museum,” one said.
“I am going to New Zealand soon and glad I have read this important message before trying to line up for this BTS pop-up,” wrote another.
A third praised the post’s author for their humour and research, saying they “paid respect to BTS and hyped them up, while also hyping themselves up in the best way”.
“I hope they get lots of visitors and people enjoying their tours,” they added.
