Calling all photographers, filmmakers and content creators – you can spend a weekend learning from accomplished industry experts and working professionals. Plus, all attendees go in the draw to win a trip to Japan.

Scenescape – a massive photography, filmmaking and content creation expo – is heading to Melbourne for the first time this October. It’s taking over the Royal Exhibition Building for two days of talks, workshops, demonstrations and hands-on camera experiences, all presented by Sony as part of its wider Scene festival.

The Scenescape program includes masterclasses and panel talks, plus four immersive zones with events dedicated to landscape, portraiture, wildlife and cinema, where visitors can try out the latest Sony cameras and lenses.

On day one, the main stage features conversations on landscape, city, street and travel photography. The landscape zone covers everything from planning and capturing astro-photography with Hobart-based landscape photographer Luke Tscharke to a guided photo-walk through Carlton Gardens with New Zealand landscape photographer Meghan Maloney. Meet Sydney-based portrait photographer and content creator Julia Trotti in the portrait zone as she shares tips on how to elevate portraiture, while conservation photographer Doug Gimesy leads sessions in the wildlife zone. Over in the cinema zone, award-winning cinematographer and filmmaker Liam Brennan explores Sony’s CineAlta cameras and the new compact FX5.

The second day shifts towards the practicalities of working as a visual storyteller, with a main stage panel exploring women building careers behind the camera, as well as a keynote from Sharna Hackett, head of studio and VFX Producer at Wētā FX’s Melbourne hub. Across the specialist zones, workshops and demos range from documentary filmmaking, landscape, wildlife and macro photography, portrait lighting, branded content, plus a behind the scenes look at professional filmmaking workflows.

There’ll also be an Alpha Awards photography gallery showcasing the finalists from across Australia and New Zealand, an Alpha tech bar for testing gear and getting advice, and a product loan station. Visitors can also book a complimentary sensor clean, subject to availability. Plus, ticket holders for any Scene festival event, including Scenescape, automatically go in the draw to win a guided photography trip to Japan.

Tickets are on sale here, with a one day pass for $45 and weekend passes for $65. Student tickets are $29 and under 18s are free with registration. Access an exclusive 30 per cent discount on tickets with code BROADSHEET30.
