Ruby Rose has shared the heartbreaking moment she came close to becoming permanently paralysed following an on-set injury.
The Australian actress, 40, opened up on sustaining a horrific injury while on the set of CW series Batwoman from 2019 to 2020.
“I’ve always done all of my own stunts, so I could turn up as Ruby the actress. But I had an accident in 2019 on the set of Batwoman… everything went bad from there,” she confessed during an episode of US reality TV military training series Special Forces.
The actress revealed she suffered two herniated discs near her spinal cord when a stunt went wrong during filming.
“I broke my neck twice already and I have got two replacement discs. There was no bouncing back, there was no part of me left, I was just a shell. Four years of my life gone,” she said.
“Eventually it’s like, I’m not really that action star, am I? I’m just Ruby.”
Rose left the show after its first season and was forced to put her life and career on hold for several years as she focussed on recovery.
The Australian actress previously claimed in 2021 she left the show after the network forced her to return to work just days after undergoing major surgery.
She also claimed the network refused responsibility for several severe on-set injuries.
Rose made a series of bombshell allegations against former CW president Peter Roth.
“Imagine going back to work 10 days after this,” Rose wrote in the caption of footage from her operation.
“[If I didn’t] the whole crew and cast would be fired, and I’d let everyone down, because Peter Roth said he wouldn’t recast and I just lost the studio millions [by getting injured on his set],” she claimed. “[And] that I’d be the one who cost so many people their jobs.”
Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind CW’s Batwoman, subsequently released a response claiming Rose was fired following an internal probe into “complaints about workplace behaviour” against her.
“Despite the revisionist history that Ruby Rose is now sharing online aimed at the producers, the cast and crew, the network, and the Studio, the truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise its option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about workplace behaviour that were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned,” a spokesman told Deadline at the time.
Rose’s once-promising career has become overshadowed by controversy in recent years.
In April 2026, the fomer MTV Australia host claimed singer Katy Perry sexually assaulted her during a night out in a Melbourne nightclub – claims Perry strenuously denied.
“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies,” representatives for Perry said.
“Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
Rose’s last credited role was as ‘medic’ in the 2024 film Dirty Angels.
