Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson and his wife Milly have announced they are expecting their first child, after experiencing a pregnancy loss earlier this year.

The couple shared the news to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon, saying they “can’t wait to meet” their “baby Daws”.

In an emotional post, they reflected on their journey to becoming parents and revealed the pregnancy comes after the loss of their first baby earlier this year.

“Our baby Daws. We can’t wait to meet you x,” the post read.

“Sending a mountain of love and strength to everyone on their journeys. It’s important for us to acknowledge that this is our second pregnancy this year. It’s a conversation we never wanted to ignore. Our angel baby expanded our hearts and taught us more than we ever thought possible.

“This little baby will have some very special stars up there.”

The announcement comes after a difficult year for Dawson and his family, with his older brother Jaryd passing away in April, aged 35.

Dawson has since spoken openly about mental health, highlighted by a heartfelt message at the AFL Awards in late August to those experiencing mental health struggles.

“I just want to say, obviously the mental health space is something that’s pretty new and pretty raw to me at the moment, but it’s definitely something that I want to learn a bit more about,” Dawson said at Melbourne’s Centrepiece.

“I just want to wish anyone who’s struggled with mental health out there, or who is struggling with mental health, to know that you are definitely loved, and the world is a better place with you in it.

“And that you are enough, and that we all love you, and that you have beautiful family and friends around you.

“Like I said, it’s a space that I really want to get into, and when the time’s right, I’ll enter that. But like I said, you are enough, and you are loved.”

Dawson earned his third All-Australian jacket this year, and was recognised as the honorary side’s vice-captain.
