San Francisco | OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman has committed to giving Australia early access to its most advanced artificial intelligence models to help plug cybersecurity holes, as he conceded his company would lose the right to keep building AI if it could not do it safely.

Speaking to AFR Weekend on the sidelines of the artificial intelligence giant’s DevDay event in San Francisco, Altman also said he worried that society was not resilient enough for the AI age and spoke for the first time about the angry call he received from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese after rogue OpenAI agents hacked into Medicare.
