Thomas makes it three in three minutes for GWS

The Giants aren’t in any mood to put their finals hopes in the hands of their rivals it seems!

Harvey Thomas wins a free kick inside 50 for a high tackle and absolutely FLUSHES his set shot from 51m out directly in front.

GWS has four inside 50s to one and has won six of the first seven clearances.

Greene snaps through his first!

Oh the GWS skipper is playing NO games this afternoon!

The Giants go forward again after the Himmelberg goal and Toby Greene, after initially rising for the mark, fakes out Anthony Caminiti in the pocket before snapping truly from the boundary line.

Greene’s got three disposals a tackle and a goal already through three minutes.

Himmelberg marks his 200th with the opener

The Giants stream off halfback and Toby Greene finds Jake Riccardi with a short kick inside 50.

Greene got things started off with a handball in congestion 75m out from the Saints goal as well.

Riccardi hands it off to Harry Himmelberg, who drills one on the run.

Great start for the Giants!

Giants and St Kilda get things underway

We’re off and running at the Sydney Showgrounds!

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, fresh off signing a $4 million deal is shoulder-to-shoulder with Stephen Coniglio at the centre bounce.

Almost on demand, Nasiah gets the first clearance and sends the Saints inside 50 with a signature long kick.

Callan Ward with a pre-game lap of honour

Emotional scenes at the Showgrounds as retiring Giants legend Callan Ward does a lap of honour.

Ward then leads the Giants out through the banner. He would absolutely love to be out there helping his teammates this afternoon!

We’re just under seven minutes from the first bounce now.

A cool bit of symmetry involving Nat Fyfe

Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe is essentially playing to extend his AFL career this afternoon.

In a wonderful little twist, Fyfe’s home town team, the Lake Grace-Pingrup Bombers, will also take the field around the same time as the Dockers to keep their own finals hopes alive!

How could today’s action shape the top eight?

Hey Chris looking forward to an exciting finals shaping day I know the main events are the last 2 today and night what implications do they have on the 8

– Bailey

OK, let’s try and break this all down then.

If the Giants beat St Kilda first up, they rise to 64 points, however due to their percentage (115.5), they are likely to finish no higher than fifth.

Brisbane, currently fourth, will finish with 66 points to go third on the ladder with a win over Hawthorn tonight.

If the Hawks win, they rise to 64 points and their superior percentage of 122.7 would see them rise to fourth on the ladder.

Then that Dogs-Dockers match.

If the Bulldogs win, they will go to 60 points and due to their percentage of 140.3, could rise as high as fifth.

Fremantle would rise to 64 points with a win, but are unlikely to finish any higher than sixth due to their percentage of 108.6.

I hope that all makes sense Bailey!
