St. John’s Women’s Basketball standouts Brooke Moore and Sa’Mya Wyatt were named to the preseason All-Big East team, the conference announced before Big East Media Day on Oct. 2.
Moore received the honor after posting 11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 50.7 percent from the field in 34 appearances last season. For her efforts, the senior guard received All-Big East and All-Met Second Team honors in 2025-26.
Moore scored in double figures 22 times, including five performances where she scored 20. She posted three double-doubles and earned Big East Player of the Week honors after scoring a career-high 25 points against Georgia Tech on Nov. 28.
Wyatt, on the other hand, averaged 10.9 points per game on 50.7 percent shooting from the field across 34 starts. The senior forward received an All-Big East Honorable Mention, and All-Met Third Team honors at the end of last season.
Wyatt reached double figures in scoring 18 times with four 20-point outings, including a career best 28 points on 10-for-15 shooting in a close win over Xavier on Jan. 17. She also recorded a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double against the Musketeers in the first round of the Big East Tournament, earning her recognition on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll.
The rest of the 2026-27 Big East Women’s Basketball Preseason All-Big East Team includes the likes of KK Arnold and Blanca Quiñonez of UConn, and Jasmine Bascoe and Kennedy Henry of Villanova.
Huskies forward Sarah Strong was named Big East Preseason Player of the Year, while her new teammate, Olivia Vukosa, was selected as Big East Preseason Freshman of the Year.
St. John’s Projected to Finish Fourth in Big East
With a month of preparation until their season opener, St. John’s is projected to finish fourth in the Big East, according to the 2026-27 Big East Women’s Basketball coaching poll. The Red Storm received 68 first-place votes, one more than Seton Hall, which ranked fifth with 67 first-place votes and 10 behind third-place Creighton with 78 first-place votes.
Villanova is projected to finish second with 90 first-place votes, while UConn is once again expected to finish first with 100 first-place votes.
The Johnnies’ fourth-place projection marks their highest in the preseason poll since the 2024-25 season, when they were also projected fourth. This time around, it comes as they have retooled their roster, which includes transfer portal additions Ny’Ceara Pryor, Sanaa Tripp and Asia Donald.
During his Big East Media Day press conference, head coach Joe Tartamella said he believes the individuals he recruited are proven leaders and have the personality to fit his program.
“I think the personality part in terms of who you want to coach has become even more paramount in terms of trying to identify the right players you want because without that, it’s not really fun for anyone,” Tartamella said.
“They’re not competing at the level you need them to be at. You don’t have the connectivity that you need. That’s the one thing about this group that I feel like even from the summer to now, and it’s continuing to build through the year.”
